Intended for Rhythmic Solfege V graduates (or currently enrolled in Rhythmic Solfege IV, with permission from the instructor), this advanced class builds off of all the knowledge and information acquired in the Rhythmic-Solfège courses.
  • We will study an ever-changing selection of pieces each year that represent a survey of Music History.
  • By popular request we will also learn more about the art of Conducting
  • We will also review and build upon rhythm, Solfège, and harmony skills learned in the Rhythmic-Solfège courses.
  •  We will study many aspects of form and structure, including:
    • Phrase and Period Structures
    • Binary, Ternary, and Rounded Binary Forms
    • Song Form
    • Rondo and Sonata Rondo Forms
    • Sonata Allegro Form

Why take Advanced Musicianship Classes:
  •  Benefits of this education include improved intonation, finer listening capability, better ensemble skills, energetic rhythmic and metric vitality, and a deepened understanding of musical analysis, nuance, and aesthetics as they relate to performance.
  •  The complete Advanced Dalcroze (AD) course offering provides students with excellent instruction and a deep appreciation of music through purposeful movement.
  • These courses will lead to the AP music theory exam for college credit:
AP Level 1 (Fall of 2022)
    AP Level 2 (2023)
    AP Level 3 (2024)

What will we explore in Advanced Dalcroze: Plastique Animée, Music History, & Conducting?
As in all Dalcroze courses, we will learn music through discovery, purposeful movement, and joy!
  • We will explore orchestral repertoire and consider music history from a global and diverse worldview. Our aim is to explore the rich multifaceted cultures of the world through their music.
  • We will visit orchestras and performing ensembles to learn about how conducting and ensembles are led from both the podium and through the ensemble members. We will also explore Plastique Animée, which is unique to the Dalcroze world and provides a way of studying a score. For each piece, we will create a visual representation of musical concepts in the score through movement.
  • We will have guest Dalcroze teachers from across the US (including favorites Dawn Pratson, Katie Couch & other surprise guest artists).
