The Program
Move, create, explore and learn music through this high-energy, exciting and fun class! Music in Motion is a movement-based music curriculum introducing concepts like rhythm, melody, and harmony in a social and imaginative way. Students embody music joyfully through creative games, improvisation, and expression. This curriculum is inspired by Dalcroze Eurhythmics and is part of a musicianship sequence that leads directly to the Rhythmic Solfege curriculum Levels I-V (a leveled sequential program that specifically teaches children to become music literate and prepares them for Advanced Placement Level coursework that can be taken for college credit). Music in Motion is focused not only on creating vivid musical foundations but also supports children's emotional, intellectual, and physical development. These classes truly allow students to experience music joyfully from the inside out! |

Course Details
The is a 28 week long course for ages 3-8. Two additional sessions are included in the price in case of class cancellation. As long as fewer than 2 classes are cancelled throughout the term, no make-up sessions will be scheduled.
For Returning Students
Please know that we cycle through Year A, B, and C of the Music in Motion Curriculum. Children who join the program at age 3 and continue in Music in Motion for three years will learn new songs and repertoire within each year (with different fun Activity Sheets to take home). Classes are usually formed of cohorts of similar age students, and the musical subjects are explored at an appropriate developmental level to support deep learning for each student.
Materials
* Integral Steps provides thoughtful and fun Activity Sheets that support at-home reviewing. They give students a creative written activity to take home with singing and movement suggestions, and allow parents to track and understand students’ learning and progress.
* Please note that students are required to bring their own water bottles and a binder for their Activity Sheets.
What will my child be learning?
Students work on developing both gross and fine motor movement skills, spatial awareness, and social and ensemble skills. They will apply them to musical concepts and play percussion instruments such as shakers, hand drums, bells, and xylophones. The course also allows students to practice emotional self-regulation, all with the support of their teacher in a warm classroom environment.
Our program develops the student’s ear and knowledge of a wide variety of musical styles, instrumentation, and genres. Throughout the year, we create joyful opportunities for students to share their knowledge through class performances for parents/caregivers.
