Musical Goals within Music in Motion
  • High and Low
  • Strong and Gentle
  • Contrast and Similarity
  • Introduce Beat, Division, Multiple 
  • Sixteenth notes, eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes, whole notes
  • Accent
  • Introduce Meter (2-time, 3-time, and 4-time)
  • Compound vs. Simple Meters
  • Phrases 
  • ​Form
  • Phrase Shape (anacrusis/pick-ups, crusis, metacrusis)
  • Antecedent and Consequent (question/answer phrases) and improvisation on pitched instruments
  • Home and Away (preparation for harmony, tonic and dominant)
  • Tonalities: Major vs. Minor
  • Improvisation of patterns in many meters
  • Solfege groundwork (learning about the first five notes of a scale, half and whole steps, improvisation, leading to scale degree six and full eight note scales)
  • Work with percussion instruments - sticks, shakers, hand drums, scarves
  • Work with Pitched instruments (xylophones, metallophones & bells)
​Movement and Developmental Goals within Music in Motion
  • Gross Locomotor movement skills (marching, trotting, skipping, tiptoe, sway, slide, lunge)
  • Fine Motor movement skills (prepare for detailed instrumental work - ie fingerings, embouchure)
  • Spatial awareness (developing understanding of time-space-energy for oneself and within a group)
  • Social and Ensemble Skills (taking turns, listening to each other’s ideas, creating and improvising with others)
  • Self Regulation (understanding emotions, practicing self-regulation, strategies for adjusting energy level and physical self-control)
  • Developing the student's ear and knowledge of a wide variety of musical styles, instrumentation, and genres
  • Joyful opportunities for students to share their knowledge through performance with class performances for parents/caregivers.
