Materials:
* All Rhythmic-Solfège students are required to purchase a metallophone ($35, due at the first class). This instrument will be provided on the first day of classes and will be used throughout the Rhythmic-Solfège sequence (5-year sequence). Students must bring this instrument to each class along with their workbook and completed homework assignments. * Program tuition includes a workbook with homework sheets for each student, published by the Dalcroze School of the Rockies, to accompany each level of Rhythmic-Solfège. Notes
This program is only available in-person in New England. This class has 32 sessions scheduled, with 1-2 additional sessions included in the price in case of class cancellation. Please note that some locations have an adjusted schedule. As long as fewer than 2 classes are cancelled throughout the term, no make-up sessions will be scheduled. Each class is one hour. |
The Program
Rhythmic-Solfège is a sequential program with levels I-V that provides all of the necessary building blocks to achieve success with any instrument. It specifically teaches children to become music literate, preparing them for Advanced Placement Level coursework that can be taken for college credit. Taught by certified and licensed Dalcroze instructors, Rhythmic-Solfège builds on the principle of learning music through movement with the addition of focused musical study on keyboard percussion. A process-oriented program, it uses the Dalcrozian principles of joy, discovery and experiential education as its foundation, and delves comprehensively into musical subjects and music literature. Rhythmic-Solfège builds upon skills developed in Music in Motion, and is designed to increase coordination, spatial awareness, flexibility, focus, emotional knowledge, and vocal precision. The curriculum can be adjusted depending on age level and past musical experience; students who are older or have prior musical experience should discuss this with the instructor to ensure they are placed in the right level of Rhythmic-Solfège. Evaluations, homework and performance opportunities: * At the end of each level of Rhythmic-Solfège, Exit Evaluations with a Jury of professional musicians/teachers will take place in order to assess each student’s level. Please note that students do not move on to the next level unless they pass the Exit Evaluation. Exit Evaluations take place each April or May. * Written homework assignments and weekly practicing expectations ensure students process, retain, and rehearse the skills and understanding gained in class. We ask that parents/caregivers practice with their child a minimum of 10 minutes, 5 days each week to ensure that their child is progressing and maximizing his or her potential in addition to completing their homework. * There will be joyful opportunities for students to share their knowledge through class performances for parents/caregivers throughout the year. The Exit Evaluation is another important opportunity for students to prepare and share their skills with confidence and pride. Musical Goals for Rhythmic-Solfège I:
