Become A Mentor!

At Integral Steps, we think our mentors are a big deal!

They embody what Integral Steps is all about:
Discovering the world through joy, promoting a lifelong-love of learning and giving back to the community!

Mentors are chosen carefully and the position requires commitment. They work alongside a teacher to help students reach their full potential. Portions of homework are assigned for mentors to lead and mentors will frequently be asked to demonstrate exercises.
Why does this help? Because children learn more in a group setting and in seeing other students succeed.
It fosters confidence both in the mentor's abilities and in the students they are helping.

Mentor Benefits

  1. Mentors work alongside Integral Steps teachers - this entails increased prep and study so mentors tend to gain a more involved and thorough understanding of the material.
  2. Mentors have access to higher level material and events - this includes free access to at least one Virtual Dalcroze Masterclass hosted by professionals around the globe. There is also a potential to join a specialized Dalcroze workshop - Integral Steps host at least a few of these kinds of programs each year.
  3. Certification - Upon completion of a year of mentorship, mentors are awarded a special certificate and transcript from Integral Steps detailing the level of musicianship achieved and the material both acquired and taught.

Mentor Requirements

  1. Once a semester, we require mentors to submit a written report of at least 500 words, exploring the content of material covered and their growth as a musician. This is an excellent way to gain experience in writing analytically and reflectively about music.
  2. Mentors must agree to practice 2-3 hours a week to prepare for class and lead homework assignments. This is to ensure they are confident in teaching others (we recommend spreading this out over multiple days).
  3. Masterclasses last 90 minutes and Dalcroze workshops are usually between 1.5-3 hours long. Whilst optional, these events are usually highly sought after and require payment; we highly encourage mentors to ensure they can make the time to attend their free sessions.
Please note that mentorship positions are limited and are at the discretion of the teacher. If you would like to be considered for our mentorship program, please use the form below to express interest, ensuring you explain clearly why you would like to become a mentor.
