Collaborating with Head Start"Owl Eyes" and Opening of Eyes
Can you see us making "Owl Eyes" to the harp accompaniment? You can feel the transformative enchantment in the students at the Boulder County Head Start program as they experience a harp for the first time! By partnering with Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Integral Steps teachers joined 5 different classrooms with some of the most eager, enthusiastic, and creative children who are so hungry for their first musical experiences! We love bringing arts education to preschool students, who would otherwise not have opportunity to work with music and art specialists. |
Music Together Gets ExcitingWhat a thrill to welcome new families in expanding classes throughout northern Colorado! Families get to play musically both indoors and outdoors in Music Together class where they sing, play, and move together. See our little friends sharing so beautifully and playing a peek-a-boo game with instruments. This community is truly lovely!

Commit to Confidence Scholarship CampaignThis year, supportive donors contributed $6,862 surpassing our original goal! Thank you for funding 6 full scholarships and 12 partial scholarships for a full year of classes.
Recently, an ongoing scholarship family was signing up for classes and was offered a partial scholarship based on previous need. They responded and let us know that their financial situation was slightly better: "We would like to donate the money you have gifted us, back into the program. We truly appreciate the generous offer and are honored to receive it, however...we will enroll [our daughter] in Music Together regardless of scholarship status. We hope the scholarship money earmarked for [our daughter] can instead assist other families who may otherwise not enroll their children entirely. We are very appreciative of the support you have given us. She absolutely loves Music Together! It has truly enriched her world more than I could possibly measure. We hope to help pass along that gift to other children as well." |
A Fun-Filled, Interactive SummerThings kicked off with our Flight of the Bumblebee where we explored world through movement, small group masterclasses, and jam sessions!
July saw us in Piano | Language | Art | Yoga (PLAY), where campers learnt foundational music and movement skills using song and fun dances. Next up was Heroes, Heroines, Ents and Elves, a week that saw us create our own Tolkien themed stories, characters and songs; we even made our own elves to take home. Biology | Art | Music in Motion (BAMM), focused on learning about the world kinesthetically through music and movement, deepened through science, and expressed through the arts. Then it was the very popular: Stories from Around the World! Campers explored a multi-medium artistic environment, through STEAM learning, and created their own fairy tales theatre and film. Our final week brought Spanish | Music | Art | Yoga (SMARTY). We explored a multi-medium artistic environment, through STEAM learning. |
Fall Festivities at MoxieWe had so much fun at our Fall festivities event at Moxie Bread in Louisville, Colorado!

Welcome Back and HelloIn-person classes resumed (and grew into New England) alongside online classes and we were so happy to see all of our wonderful students! We formed some exciting partnerships this year with the Yoga Hive, Dana V Studio, Live, Love, Dance and St. Vrain Community Montessori School to host our programs and give all of you the space to explore your musicality!
Our Advanced Dalcroze program kicked off this year, with options to join both in person or online. Advanced Dalcroze: Plastique Animée, Music History, & Conducting is intended for Rhythmic Solfege V graduates and allows students to study music at a deep level and eventually prepare to succeed at the College Board’s Advanced Placement Exam in Music Theory! |

Taking Things OnlineRedefining how we come together as a community
and stay connected from a distance. When the pandemic hits, we jump into action! Our programming immediately shifts to live interactive video calls for all weekly classes, 100% virtual summer programming, and 4 virtual concerts-all with the focus on thriving, not just surviving. Adults need connection too; and the pandemic constraints allow us to initiate the Virtual Dalcroze Meet-Ups which connect educators on 6 continents, creating ongoing discussion and masterclass series. |
Wow! What a year. After taking our programs online, we experienced and grew in ways we couldn't have imagined. Taking this moment to appreciate all that we've accomplished seemed most fitting... and we even managed to fit in some fun end-of-year shenanigans on Zoom...
"This past school year was hard and strange for so many, but even through all the changes, having one another remained the constant we really needed. Through the twists and turns of ever-changing guidelines, Zoom pivots, and virtual classes, at Integral Steps we were able to create a capsule of consistency and community that was a source of comfort to students, families, and teachers alike. As an adult, I experienced a lot of uncertainty and fear this past year, but knowing that every Monday at 2:45pm I would be with a group of eager and creative young students to explore, play, and laugh together - this kept me going!
We needed some stability and some community in our lives, and we found it in each other, just showing up and being ourselves. " Cora Crisman - Instructor and Scholarship Coordinator |
Workshops & CampsHeld at the Louisville Rec Center Arboretum & Compositive Primary, Integral Steps hosted fun, creative and dynamic outdoor group events whilst keeping socially distanced and sanitized for safety. Students explored hands-on science experiments and created multimedia art projects, moved to live music or flowed in yoga!

Music Connects UsWe joined musicians across the globe for a concert exchange taking place on the same day in many places!
Music Connects Us weaves together a multi-continental community of local musicians and music lovers. It is a collaboration between student and professional musicians from many countries to present an annual Global Concert Exchange. These events took place on the same date and time in multiple time zones, creating connections across continents and cultures. Performers exchanged videos with each other and their communities, sharing about the music they love to play and asking each other about their daily lives in other places. |
All Planets Great and Small
A discovery day of workshops and music with a preview of the NASA-Smithsonian Spectrum Lab!
Integral steps had an amazing time working with Multiverse Concert Series for Exoplanetary! The day started with a children's workshop where we used music, movement, and art to explore the universe. Then, we had the Spectrum Lab Exclusive Preview with Dr Roy Gould, where we learned how to use Harvard-Smithsonian's new exoplanet exploration tool. The afternoon wrapped up with an inspiring concert featuring the Marvento Duo, Emma Shubin and sonifications of exoplanet light spectra by Multiverse resident composer, David Ibbett! What a weekend! |

The BeginningOur first events were workshops for parents and children combining music, movement, art, and emotional regulation. We reached over 40 families and our annual budget was $500.
Emma & Ale share: We founded Integral Steps on the belief that the best learning occurs when children are given the experience of being truly seen: they are seen, heard, and felt within the warmth of our full attention. They feel accompanied, open to further discover themselves. |
