Welcome back and hello: A new semester begins!
In-person classes resumed alongside online classes and we were so happy to see all of our wonderful students! We formed some exciting partnerships this year with the Yoga Hive, Dana V Studio, Live, Love, Dance and St. Vrain Community Montessori School to host our programs and give all of you the space to explore your musicality!
Our Advanced Dalcroze program kicked off this year, with options to join both in person or online. Advanced Dalcroze: Plastique Animée, Music History, & Conducting is intended for Rhythmic Solfege V graduates (or currently enrolled in Rhythmic Solfege IV, with permission from the instructor) and allows students to study music at a deep level and eventually prepare to succeed at the College Board’s Advanced Placement Exam in Music Theory! Another exciting development was expanding our programming in New England, thanks to our wonderful instructor Ms Weronika! Piano Moves, Music in Motion and Rhythmic-Solfège I & II are now offered in Waltham, Brookline and Concord! |

A Fun-Filled and Integrative Summer!
We had such a joyful summer at our Integral Steps Camps!Things kicked off with our Flight of the Bumblebee Music Camp where students of all ages explored music from different parts of the world through movement, small group masterclasses, as well as activities in art, composition, improvisation, note reading, music theory, and jam sessions!
Something that touched us deeply about this camp was how willing the campers were to pitch in and help during cleanup, and we saw beautiful little moments of generosity between campers, like "I can teach you that" or "That's so cool, how did you do that?". The week culminated in wonderful ensemble performances in front of friends and family. Integral Steps is privileged to partner with Compositive Primary and we were thrilled to be invited back to offer our joyful programs. Week one saw us in PLAY! - our piano, language, art and yoga themed week- where campers learnt foundational music and movement skills using familiar and new songs (our Zulu song "Siyahamba" was a big hit!), fun dances, and partner work! Next up was Heroes, Heroines, Ents and Elves, a week that saw us create our own Tolkein themed stories, characters and songs; we even made our own elves to take home. Our third week, BAMM: Biology, Art, Music in Motion, focused on learning about the world kinesthetically through music and movement, deepened through science, and expressed through the arts. Students loved going up and down a scale by counting with their bodies and jumping through colorful hoops as well as creating rolly-polly habitats! Our final week was our SMARTY week: Using Spanish, Music, Art and Yoga as our guides, we explored a multi-medium artistic environment, through STEAM learning. From singing Head Shoulder Knees & Toes in Spanish (Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas y Pies) to travelling to the distant lands of Red (quarter notes), Purple (eighth notes), Lemon Yellow (sixteenth notes) and Blue (half notes) we explored the world in color, rhythm and a new language. Each week culminated in lovely short performances, celebrated through musical finales and Science & Arts exhibits for parents, friends & families! Our final camp was very popular: Stories from Around the World! We spent our mornings exploring a multi-medium artistic environment, through STEAM learning using songs, art, Spanish, and creative thinking. In the afternoon, campers created their own fairy tales and explored fantasy worlds through theatre and film. |

Celebrating everything we have accomplished: A reflection on 2020-2021
Wow! What a year! After taking our programs online, we experienced and grew in ways we couldn't have imagined. Taking this moment to appreciate all that we've accomplished seemed most fitting... and we even managed to fit in some fun end-of-year shenanigans on Zoom...
This past school year was hard and strange for so many, but even through all the changes, having one another remained the constant we really needed. Through the twists and turns of ever-changing guidelines, Zoom pivots, and virtual classes, at Integral Steps we were able to create a capsule of consistency and community that was a source of comfort to students, families, and teachers alike. As an adult, I experienced a lot of uncertainty and fear this past year, but knowing that every Monday at 2:45pm I would be with a group of eager and creative young students to explore, play, and laugh together - this kept me going! |
Perform-A-Thon Concert and Practice Challenge

Thank you for such an amazing Perform-A-Thon!
We are so touched by your generosity and are so happy to say that we exceeded our $1000 goal and raised $1466 in scholarships. We set a goal of raising enough to fund 2 full-year scholarships, and instead we have enough to fund almost 3 full-year scholarships. Wow! Your support and belief in the Integral Steps mission means so much. Thank you!
We are so proud of the students and families who shared their musical gifts with us, and so grateful to our community for supporting and cheering on their work!
If you or your family member missed a portion of the program and would like to view it, please let us know by responding to this email. We'll send you an unlisted video link.

Multiverse Concert: Reef Music
The plight of coral reefs around the world is often overlooked - these beautiful ecosystems exist far from our everyday environments, but are suffering nonetheless from our continued use of fossil fuels.
We partnered with Multiverse to present a Reef Music concert. See more here. |
Workshops at Louisville Recreation Center
Held at the Louisville Rec Center Arboretum, Integral Steps hosted fun, creative and dynamic outdoor group events whilst keeping socially distanced and sanitized for safety. Students explored hands-on science experiments and created multimedia art projects, moved to live music or flowed in yoga!

Music Connects Us - Global Concert Exchange! November 2019
We joined musicians across the globe for a concert exchange taking place on the same day in many places!
Music Connects Us weaves together a multi-continental community of local musicians and music lovers. It is a collaboration between student and professional musicians from many countries to present an annual Global Concert Exchange. These events took place on the same date and time in multiple time zones, creating connections across continents and cultures. Performers exchanged videos with each other and their communities, sharing about the music they love to play and asking each other about their daily lives in other places. Concerts occurred in Louisville, Colorado; Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Hofheim; Germany. The Colorado portion of this concert featured students of Emma Shubin. *This concert was made possible by a grant from the Louisville Cultural Council Art Program. |

Multiverse Series Somerville - November 2019
A discovery day of workshops and music with a preview of the NASA-Smithsonian Spectrum Lab!
Integral steps had an amazing time working with Multiverse Concert Series for Exoplanetary! The day started with a children's workshop where we used music, movement, and art to explore the universe. Then, we had the Spectrum Lab Exclusive Preview with Dr Roy Gould, where we learned how to use Harvard-Smithsonian's new exoplanet exploration tool. The afternoon wrapped up with an inspiring concert featuring the Marvento Duo, Emma Shubin and sonifications of exoplanet light spectra by Multiverse resident composer, David Ibbett! What a weekend! |
