Eurhythmics + Improvisation: Chinese characters, Chinese language, direction, gestures, music+language connection, sound+writing connection
Yi-Ru McAllister (Taiwan) "Creativity Inspired by the Chinese Language"
Chinese is different from western languages in a number of ways. For example, each Chinese word is combined by different strokes with a specific order in a precise direction, which is comparable to a music score. The goal of this workshop is to use the different strokes and characters of the Chinese language as the starting point to inspire our imagination, in order to create the link between the language and the musical subject.
Yi-Ru McAllister completed her Diplôme Supérieur at Institut Jaques-Dalcroze (IJD) in June 2019. In addition, she holds a Masters in Composition from Taiwan’s NTNU and a Masters of Music Pedagogy in the method of Jaques-Dalcroze Eurhythmics from HEM in Geneva.
During her six years of training in Geneva (2013-2019), she worked at IJD as a Eurhythmics teacher for all ages. She returned to Taiwan in 2019, exploring various collaborations with the National concert hall, art centres and schools for projects between Dalcroze and the arts. She is also invited regularly to different conservatories and music schools to hold Dalcroze workshops for music teachers.
Masterclass #31 was originally given on October 21/22, 2023.
