Rhythmic-Solfège I, II, III, IV, and V
The Dalcroze Rhythmic-Solfège sequence provides all of the necessary building blocks to achieve success with any instrument. Rhythmic Solfège builds on the principles of learning music through movement with the addition of focused musical study on keyboard percussion; the end goal of the sequence is comprehensive musicianship! Students who complete the entire sequence will have the same competency of any college-level freshman conservatory student. Suzuki Piano / Suzuki Flute Suzuki Piano is an add-on to the Rhythmic Solfège Sequence, where students apply the theory and musicality they're learning in Rhythmic Solfège to learning piano or flute. Instrumental Academy The Instrumental Academy at Integral Steps is unique in that it offers students of all ages and abilities a truly integrated learning experience. Our faculty is comprised of highly sought-after, trained teacher, proficient in integrative education and provide students with exciting performance opportunities. |
Short Courses and Workshops
(6-8 week short course, 2-3 sequenced classes, single workshop)
Adapting to Your Needs Our aim is to work with music teachers and support their school-year goals and multi-year program objectives. Dedicating time to musicianship training away from the instrument can bring incredible changes in students’ engagement, focus, and musical understanding. We are eager for students to apply their learning in the instrumental and vocal ensemble rehearsal. For this, we rely on music teachers’ expertise in their particular curriculum, repertoire, and students. In a short course or workshop, we can create a curriculum which meets your goals and needs. The curriculum will be based on the students’ ages, musical experience, and specific musical content objectives. For band and orchestra programs, we are happy to think creatively about incorporating the students’ instruments as a replacement for the metallophone. |
Looking at one of our programs in depth:
an example of what to expect from the curriculum
Solfège Solfège teaches musicians how to hear with their eyes and see with their ears. That is, students learn to listen internally and imagine how the notes and rhythms that they hear would look like if these items were written down. The converse is also true; students might see notes and rhythms on the page and know how they should sound without the aid of a piano or other instrument. Metallophone as a tool for learning Students will bring their own personal metallophone to class each week. This will be a one-time purchase for the multi-year program. There will be assignments each week that will involve the students learning songs to play on their instrument and to sing while they play. Juried Evaluations At the end of the year, there will be juried evaluations to advance into the next Rhythmic-Solfège level. These exams give the child and parent a tangible goal and ensure quality in the program. All components to the exams will be given at least 2 months prior to the exam date so that everyone is prepared and the experience is a successful and rewarding one. Sometimes, a student may not be ready to advance. The decision to not take an exam will be made together with the Director, parent, and student. Since the focus of this program is musically driven, we have notated the main objectives that each year will cover so that parents, teachers, and students can know what level of musicianship is expected at each level. Proper placement is important, as 7-year-old students learn differently than 11-year-old or 15-year-old students, both corporally and mentally. |
